China, 19th century, late Qing Dynasty (1644–1911)

 

Painted with overglaze enamels. The interior basin is decorated with a stylised shou, the symbol of longevity, surrounded by five bats (the symbol of good luck and happiness). Stylised flowers, bats, and xi symbols (representing happiness and joy) against a turquoise blue background on the outside wall.
